Profiles

Foundation Governors (8)

Clare Farrow

I have been a Governor at St John’s Catholic Primary school since 2007. I began my journey as a Parent elected Governor, and have continued as a Foundation Governor since 2010. During this time, I have been the Chair of the Curriculum Committee, and the Staffing Committee. In my professional life I have worked as a Bank Manager, Financial Advisor, Office Manager, Compliance Officer and HR Manager. The skills I have learnt in these roles transfer easily across to school governance.

I feel I have a cross section of experience that covers all areas of school governance/committees. I am passionate about keeping up to date with changes in procedure and am an avid reader of the DFE web site and educational blogs. Throughout the years, I have been actively involved at school, both as a parent helper, member of the PTA and in my role as governor, which has enabled me to develop a relationship with the school and senior leadership team based upon mutual trust, where I feel my contribution is valued and respected.

Clare Doogue

I have been a Foundation Governor, appointed by The Bishop, at St John’s for many years. Up until I retired two years ago I worked for Wiltshire (County) Council in both the Architects and Property Services Departments. I worked on many building projects including schools, libraries, magistrates’ courts and police and fire stations. I did a full range of work from seeking tenders through to keeping the budgets. The capital programme and maintenance budgets ran into millions of pounds. In the last five years I worked on the implementation of a new finance, procurement and HR system for the County.

I am currently Chair of the Resources Committee, at school, which oversees the school finances and premises. I am also the link Governor for RE, SMSC and Art. I have enjoyed a long association with St John’s as I am a former pupil of the School. I have enjoyed my time as a Governor immensely taking part in school trips and for many years the year 6 venture week as well as attending School Masses, Class Liturgies, Nativity Plays and the Easter Witness Services. I am very proud of St John’s and have been privileged to work with many dedicated and talented staff and governors and polite and well mannered pupils – a credit to their parents and the School.

John Kelly

Before joining the Governing Body in 2001 as a Foundation Governor, I was an active member of the PTA (now The Friends of St John). I have been chair of the Teaching & Learning Committee since September 2015 having previously been chair of both Staffing and Curriculum committees. I have been Link Governor for Maths since September 2014. We have had two children pass through St John’s, who now attend St Augustine’s in Year’s 10 and 13.

With over 30 year’s experience in information technology, I have been Information Security Officer for a global loss adjuster and claims management company since 1998. I have helped the school secure a number of investments to deliver much needed technology upgrades to enhance pupil experience across the curriculum.

Lukasz Wrona

Professionally, I manage a large team of IT engineers working within both private and public sector organisations. I work with educational institutions across several counties which gives me a good insight into various approaches to organising such establishments.

I have tried acting as a “critical friend” positively challenging the school. I believe it to give the reassurance that strategies adopted do serve their purpose and provide sound foundations for educating our children in the best possible way; it can also be an opportunity for rethinking approach where necessary. It is equally important to me that school’s values form an integral part of its approach making St Johns a unique place for children. I am a vice chair of the resources committee as well as contributor to the work of teaching and learning. I will also be working with a science lead as a science link governor in 2016.

Paul Walsh

I have 2 children at St Johns. I became a parent governor in 2014 and I am now a foundation governor. I am passionate about education and how important it is for every child to get a good start in life. I am a member of the teaching and learning committee and the resources committee. I am also the link governor for history this year. Professionally I am a manager at a local housing association managing the build and delivery of new affordable homes.

Rhianna Cole

I have recently been appointed as a Foundation Governor at St John's by The Bishop. I became a Governor to further my insight into the Education system and how it links into a source of community, which I am especially interested in. My son’s experiences at nursery have pushed this further, hence me taking the next step into a more formal role. Outside of my Governor-ship, I am a Family lawyer with 10 years experience both in Hertfordshire and Wiltshire. I see both the financial and analytical skills from my profession as being the most relevant transferrable skills in my work with the School. I look forward to helping the teachers and staff in my role, whilst contributing to, and learning from, the community.

Bernadette Barret-John

Mike Simmons

I am Foundation Governor, with SEN link responsibilities.
Retired from the NHS, my professional skills include Building Maintenance, Electrical Engineering and Health and Safety.
I have been a primary school governor and chair in the local community in excess of 10 years.
I am committed to the Roman Catholic faith and the principles of education that enable all children to achieve a high standard of education according to their abilities.

Parent Governors (3)

Caroline King

I am married to Richard and we have 3 children at St. Johns. Professionally, I manage the UK global key accounts for one of the world’s leading hotel groups. I became a Parent Governor in 2014 and I thoroughly enjoy working with a dynamic FGB as well as the school management team in helping them work towards the very highest educational standards for each and every individual child attending our school.

This year I am a working member of the Teaching & Learning Committee and I am a link governor for PE helping achieve the various challenges set out in the 2016 curriculum.

Richard Woods

I have recently been elected as a Parent Governor and I have attended my first meetings. My wife and I have a daughter at St Johns and we all enjoy being part of the school community.

In the last 6 years I have been a Governor in 2 other local Primary Schools, with responsibility for Health & Safety, Finance, Resources, SEN, Pupil Premium, Well-being and I have chaired committees as well. Professionally I work for a Local Authority and deal with schools regularly as part of this role.

I am looking forward to learning more and sharing knowledge to ensure all the pupils at St Johns achieve their full potential.

Andrea Blackmore

LEA Governor (1)

Douglas Marr

We have 1 child at St Johns and I work as a software engineer. I have helped with various aspects of school Governance from working on committees through to assisting with the school website. I am currently Chair of Admissions.

As a Governor you are able to witness first hand how much change goes on in education but also the hard work and dedication put in by both teachers, support staff and the Head.
