    Catholic Social Teaching Exhibition

We are incredibly grateful to all the families and parishioners who joined us to celebrate our inspirational Catholic Social Teaching Exhibition.

It was wonderful to see so many people celebrating the voice of the children and giving them an opportunity to showcase their impressive work.  We will be adding photos and a selection of the children's speeches to the school website - please do take a look!

We have been working with Sr Judith Russi for some time now but it was an honour to actually have her with our school family and she was quite rightly very impressed with the knowledge and voice of the children, so much so she has promised to visit us again! One of the children in Year 5 shared ' I really liked CST week because I got to express what I think about an issue and how I feel about things that aren't right in our world. I like it that I have knowledge and I could teach my parents and show them what I do in school.'

Canon Tom lead us assuredly through the Mass with support as ever from the children. A special mention needs to be made of Theo G as Canon Tom stated that his reading was one of the best he had ever heard!

The parents and relatives came to share this special event and enjoyed refreshments and relaxing with their children afterwards.

EYFS Trip to Longleat on Friday 16th June 2023

Last Friday, Foundation Stage pupils visited Longleat Safari Park to support their learning in our project this term, ‘What makes our world wonderful?’

Once there, we started the day with a workshop, where we met two zoo keepers, Ben and Ollie. They brought out 5 different species of animals; snakes, ferrets, guinea pigs, cockroaches and a Tarantula called Salsa! During this workshop the children learnt all about these animals and if they were brave enough, they could even touch or hold them too!

We then had some time to explore the park, where we went on the boat safari to explore Longleat Lake and then jumped on board the train to explore different areas of the park.

We then ended our trip with a visit around the safari, where we got to see some bigger animals such as; lions, giraffes, zebras and wolves!

The children provided so much energy and enthusiasm on the trip. They were very keen to explore and ask questions throughout the day. We had such a great day and the children were great ambassadors for the school!

    KS1 Dance Festival - Tuesday 20th June 2023

On Tuesday, the Key Stage 1 Dance Club spent the afternoon and early evening at the Bath Forum.

During the afternoon, they engaged in a range of activities including yoga, rehearsal time and dance booklets.

In front of a large audience, the children performed with great energy, enthusiasm and flair. It was a real joy to a well-rehearsed dinosaur dance routine live on stage!

Staff supporting the event were so proud of the children’s behaviour and the way they conducted themselves. They were fantastic ambassadors of St John’s. Well done to all involved!

These slips must be completed for every day your child arrives late to school.

    Thank you.

    Hear My Voice

In preparation for “Hear My Voice” on Thursday 22nd June, Mr. Somerville lead two assemblies for KS1 and KS2 on how to deliver a speech. There are many strategies that a speech-maker can use to improve their performance but the most important one is to do how they feel when all eyes are on them. Namely, you deserve to be on stage, let your light shine and be a change-maker for the Common Good.

  • Leavers Mass at Clifton Cathedral

    Fri 16 Jun 2023

    Leavers Mass at Clifton Cathedral

On Wednesday, Year 6 gathered together with many other primary schools in the Clifton Diocese to celebrate Leavers’ Mass at Clifton Cathedral, led by Bishop Declan.

The children produced an offertory symbol which represented the work each child has done to support their local community.

The mass was a memorable occasion, celebrating the children’s time in primary education. Following this, the Year 6s enjoyed a picnic and play in Victoria Park, Bath.

“I really enjoyed visiting the cathedral for the first time. It was quite unique which made it stand out from the others I have visited before.” – Adrian C.

“I really enjoyed seeing all the Year 6s from other schools gathered together in one place.” – Leigha L.
