    Year 2 Roller Skating Day.

We are proud of the PE opportunities and skills that the children encounter during their time at St John’s. However, we are always exploring ways in which we can enhance children’s experiences within the subject of PE.

On Thursday, the Year 2 children were given the opportunity to try roller skating during their PE lesson. The children hada brilliant time learning a new skill and all thoroughly themselves.

Thank you to Miss Fallows for arranging this amazing experience.

Children’s Author visits Key Stage One

On Wednesday, KS1 were fortunate to receive a visit from the author Gareth Edwards. He read some of his books and talked to them about his job as an author. He read 'The disgusting sandwich' and we got to meet some of the characters 'Badger and Crow'!

The children had a great time

    listening to the story and

    engaging with the characters.

We would like to thank Gareth for his time and wonderful storytelling.

    Classes 6, 7 & 8  Trip to Stonehenge

On Monday 8th January Lower Key Stage 2 went on a trip to Stonehenge to support and inspire them for their learning in the spring terms.  The sun shone on the way there and the children and adults were in good spirits. The children split into year groups, some went to the very informative museum while others made their way to the stones. After lunch the groups swapped and the children learned about the tools and weapons used in the Stone and Bronze Ages and what the structure of Stonehenge may have been used for. We learned how History is sometimes just detective work using evidence from archaeological finds. We had a wonderful time. A big thank you to all the Governors, Parents and Staff who made the trip possible.

  • Whole School Mass

    Whole School Mass

On Tuesday morning the whole school celebrated their first mass of the New Year together at St. Johns Church.

The 1st reading was read by Daniel, the psalm was sung beautifully by

Tatiana and the bidding prayers were led by Lexi and Iga, all year 6 children. The choir, as always were on top form and lead the congregation by singing some specially chosen hymns.

It was a wonderful way to join together at the start of a New Year with all the children, teaching staff and the regular parishioners at church.

Canon Tom’s homily invited the children to, if they wished share their new year’s resolutions with everyone. Some lovely responses of ‘to try harder at school’, to ‘make new friends’. The homily was linked to the fresh start that the New Year can bring to our lives, not necessarily making a resolution but for all of us to observe our lives regularly, and to seek God's help to become better individuals every day.

    Epiphany Service

On Friday afternoon the whole school joined together to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. The service was led beautifully by our Year 6 Chapel Champions who dedicated their own time to prepare and plan the service. We also recognise and celebrate the gifts of our children who sang so wonderfully and to Rutendo who led us in a stunning solo of the carol Silent Night.  This service helped children understand the significance of the Epiphany and how God sent his son,

Jesus, into the world so that everyone, everywhere might know of God’s great love for all his children. In addition each classroom was visited by the three wise men to complete the ancient blessing of the Feast of the Epiphany. This ancient blessing

reminds us that every time we enter this place we are asking for God’s blessing on us and the people who visit here.

    Year 5 & 6 Girls Football Tournament

Well done to the Year 5/6 girls’ football team who represented St John’s in the Wiltshire and Swindon Football Finals Day. We did exceptionally well in the group stage by winning all four matches. This took us through to the semi-finals where we were up against Christchurch. A closely contested game which we narrowly won    2-1. St John’s faced Southfield in the final. Unfortunately, we lost 2-0; however, all children gave it their all and put on a fantastic show. They were wonderful       ambassadors of the school and deserving of their runners up medals.
