Reading is the key to all learning. Without it, children cannot confidently access learning in other subjects. It is a vital skill for life, and one which opens many doors of opportunity and imagination.
We know from research that children who read well have a more extensive vocabulary and are more successful at school and beyond. At St John's Catholic Primary School we are passionate about fostering a love of reading in all our pupils and inspire them to be lifelong readers.
We are fortunate to have a stunning well resourced library at the heart of our school. The older children in KS2 hold the leadership role of Reading Champions and support all children to select high quality texts to enjoy at school and home.
Reading Spine
At St John's Catholic Primary School we have created a reading spine that offers high quality texts reflecting a range of genres, genders, profiles and cultures.
