LKS2 Trip to Trowbridge Library on Wednesday 24th April 2024

LKS2 had a fantastic trip to Trowbridge Library this week. Tracy Hager shared the awe and wonder of books with us and the importance of  developing a love of reading from a very early age and the impact it has on everyone’s life opportunities. The library is free to all from the moment you are born and it was so easy for us to take out a book. Read, read and read some more!!!

    Litter Picking

On Tuesday afternoon Helping Hands and Class 5 teamed up to litter pick along Wingfield road as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

The children were wonderful ambassadors of St Johns and were described as “Local Hero’s” by one member of the public.

We have now logged our total litter collection on the Great British Spring Clean website and will hear shortly how much litter was collected throughout Wiltshire.

    Prayer/Reflection Garden

We are excited to have started work on the creation of our school Prayer/Reflection garden. The area was very overgrown as you can see in the pictures below. Phase one to clear the area began over the Easter holidays and its now much easier to see the space we have to work with. Over the coming months we will be working with our grounds contractors Idverde to landscape the area and plant hedging. In order to keep costs down, there will be an opportunity for families to ‘sponsor a plant’ which will be celebrated on a plaque within the garden. We will keep you posted on our progress.

    World Reading Challenge Passport

During Term 5 all children will be invited to participate in the Mission Together Reading Challenge 'Words for Our World'.

The children's mission is to read their way around the world! They can do this by reading books based on the five Mission Rosary continents or by earning travel miles by reading each day. Reading books from the continents will help us to learn about the world we all share, and how we can support our global family through prayer and action.

Look out for the reading booklet that will be included inside each child's reading  record next week.
