Thank you to all the parents and families who visited the exhibition on Wednesday. It wonderful to see and hear so many children talking confidently about maths and the work they had produced that morning.

Faith and Friendship Chaplaincy Day

Our Year 5 Chapel Champions were invited to join other school in the Wiltshire area for a day of refection and prayer in the beautiful gardens of Wardour School on a lovely sunny day.
They were joined by Father Joseph from Salisbury who began the day with wonderful bible stories and prayer. The children connected with the earth using their senses of sound, sight, smell and sight in God’s beautiful creation.
A representative from Edukaid spoke to all the children about the charity that help schools in Tanzania, Africa. They completed a 22 question quiz on what school life was like in Africa and the children from Tanzania will also answer the same quiz and we will receive the responses on the next meet.
The children explored leadership skills that will be ready to explore on their next day.
We had a reflective walk to the local chapel and explored the many treasures of the hidden gems inside. The children joined Father Joseph in ‘thankful prayers’ one being ‘for the special day they got to spend on the Chaplaincy day and making new friends from other schools’ The children had an amazing day exploring their faith.

Leavers Mass at Clifton Cathedral

On Thursday 13th June, Year 6 gathered together with many other primary schools in the Clifton Diocese to celebrate Leavers’ Mass at Clifton Cathedral.
The mass was a memorable occasion, celebrating the children’s time in primary education. Following this, the Year 6s enjoyed a picnic and play in Victoria Park, Bath.

Summer has finally arrived and this year’s Sports Day will take place on Friday 5th July. Children are to arrive at school in their P.E. kits wearing a T-Shirt representing the colour of their house.
The timings will be as follows:
Am - KS2 (after registration - 12pm)
Pm - EYFS and KS1 (1.15pm - 3pm)
St. Therese - Blue
St. Dominic - Yellow
St. Anthony - Green
St. Rose - Red
If your child is unsure of their house, they should ask their teacher.
Further information will be sent to next week.
Parents will be invited to stay for a picnic on the field.
This is all weather dependant.
If you are taking any close-up photos, please ensure that they are of your own child only.
Policy on photography: you will understand the need to safeguard children by refraining from posting photographs/videos of other children on social media sites without the permission of their parents/guardians.

Prayer Garden

Our grounds contractors Idverde were hard at work in the new Prayer Garden over half term.
The new hedging has now been planted and the railway sleeper seating will be installed shortly. Thank you to all those who have already made a donation towards the cost of the garden via Parentmail. If you would like to contribute, you can do so by looking in either ’Shop’ or ‘Payment Items’ within Parentmail.

West Wiltshire Quad Kids
Fri 24 May 2024West Wiltshire Quad Kids
On Wednesday our Year 5/6 athletes competed in West Wiltshire Quad Kids at the University of Bath. The events were 75m sprint, long jump, throw and 600m race with a fun relay to finish.
Despite the wind and rain our students remained high spirited throughout and gave it their best effort. We came fourth overall, missing out of third place by only five points! It was a fun day out and a close competition. Well done Team.

Prayer Garden

We are excited to say that the next stage of work on our Prayer Garden will begin over half term when the hedging to surround the garden is being planted. Idverde visited this morning to mark the area out before they begin work next week. Once the hedging is in place, two new raised beds are being created so that the children can plant inside them and seating is being erected around the slope in an amphitheatre style. The theme of the garden is Psalm 23 and it will provide a quiet reflective space for children to spend time during lessons, break and lunchtimes. Weather permitting, we hope it will be finished before the end of term 6 when Mrs Sessions retires.
We would like to give parents, carers and other family members the opportunity to contribute to the garden by sponsoring part of it for a £15.00 donation. The names of all families who support the garden will then be commemorated on a plaque within the garden. Payment can be made on a special payment item on Parentmail or other family members or members of the community who do not have access to parentmail, can make a cash donation in a sealed envelope with their contact details and brought to Mrs Poulter in the school office.

May Crowning of Mary Our Mother

It is a Catholic tradition to honour Mary, our Mother, during the month of May by placing on her statue a crown of flowers.This Sunday, 19th May, the Children's Rosary warmly invite you to process from outside St John's Primary School down to the church for the crowning of Mother Mary and Holy Mass. We will carry Our Lady and pray the rosary, led by the children. Starting at 9.40am.
All welcome, don't worry if you have never prayed the rosary before. If you can't join the procession then you could join us for the crowning outside church at approximately 10.10am.
