  Parent Governor Vacancy

   

  We currently have a vacancy for a parent governor on the Governing Board at the school. Parent governors are elected by other parents and support the Board in their strategic role, not the day to day running of the school. The role of a parent governor is not as a spokesperson for the views of parents; they are the same as all other governors on the Board, providing a 'parental viewpoint' ie representative parents rather than representative of parents.

   

  You do not need to have a background in education, a range of work and life skills are valuable to bring to this role. You will need to be able to commit time to attend meetings at school and undertake training, and keep your knowledge up to date.

• Winter Uniform

  Winter Uniform

   

  All pupils are to return to school after half term in their winter uniform. Details are on the school website.  Also could girls with long hair please make sure it is tied back for school. 

   

  Now the weather is getting colder and wetter, please ensure your child wears a winter coat into school every day. Children will go out in the playground every day at both break time and lunchtime.

   

• Chaplaincy Commissioning Service

  Chaplaincy Commissioning Service

   

  On Thursday 11^th October a group of senior Chapel Champions travelled to Clifton Cathedral to attend the Primary Chaplaincy Commissioning Service led by Bishop Declan. It was a wonderful occasion and the children from St. John's were exemplary role models of our school values. They promised to commit to the challenge of being a leader and peace builder in our world today and Bishop Declan challenged each child to be ambitious in what they can achieve. Over 450 children attended the event from across the Diocese and it was a joyous occasion. Many thanks to Mrs Clare Doogue, RE Governor, who once again so generously gave up her time to support the children in this most important role.

   

  

• Harvest Service

  Harvest Service

   

  On Friday 6^th October the whole school - including Foundation Stage children - celebrated a wonderful Harvest Service together led by Canon Tom.  Thank you so much to every family that contributed to the Service we had over 200 donations of food and toiletries which is fantastic! All of the items will go to families in our local area and we look forward to working with Trowbridge Foodbank over the coming year. Congratulations to our Year 5 children, Theo K and Ella H who have been selected as Food Bank Friday Leaders and they will be co-ordinating the weekly Foodbank collections. 

   

• Holy Rosary

  Holy Rosary

   

  October is the month of the Holy Rosary and this week in our parish we started praying the Healing Rosary for Families for all families, but especially those in our parishes and schools. You are invited to entrust your families to Our Lady's care by placing the surnames of your families (or any families you would like us to pray for) in our intentions box to be prayed for each week and in return please take a Unity Prayer card.

  There is a box, prayer cards and intention slips in the school office (from Monday) and the church porch. Alternatively, you can email names to healingrosaryforfamilies@gmail.com and they will be added on your behalf. Everyone is welcome to join the parishioners in St. John’s Church on Wednesdays at 9am.

   

   

• Monty—St. John’s Therapy Dog

  Monty—St. John’s Therapy Dog

   

  Monty is the newest addition to the St John’s family. Mrs. Sessions has had Monty since he was a puppy and now at age 10 he has spent the summer completing his therapy dog training to enable him to come into school and take part in a wide range of activities with the children.

   

  Mrs. Sessions says – having a therapy dog in school has a number of benefits to both the children and staff at St Johns. I am very excited that Monty will get to spend time with the children and help with their literacy and communication skills as well as increase the feelings of well-being throughout the school.

   

  The therapeutic effects of a child reading to a dog appears to produce a less stressed, less self-conscious and more confident child. A therapy dog can provide comfort, encourage positive behaviour, motivate speech and inspire children to have fun.

   

  Monty has 4 agents in school —Weronika, Tatiana, Weronika and Maja.

   

  

• History of Gdansk

  History of Gdansk

   

  On Monday Ewa Rysop from EMTAS came into school and presented a  brilliant short history of Gdansk to all of Year 3 and 4. She told us about the highlights of the city, the importance of the sea and port and the features of the town. We were especially impressed with the stories of Amber from beaches to shops and museums! The children have also been sharing stories of Gdansk and Poland in class; we would welcome any stories or

  photos if you have any you’d like to share.

• First Holy Communion Mass

  First Holy Communion Mass

   

  On Tuesday 26th September, LKS2 children who have celebrated their First Holy Communion recently gathered at school to celebrate again, but this time with their families and the school community.  Children were dressed in their Communion outfits and brought with them their joy, excitement and reverence at such a milestone in their Catholic lives. It was a lovely event and was an inspiration to the St. John’s   family.

   

  

• Mass to celebrate children who received Sacrament of First Holy Communion in Summer 2023

  Mass to celebrate children who received Sacrament of First Holy Communion in Summer 2023 

   

  Children who celebrated the Sacrament of First Holy Communion in May/June 2023 are invited to celebrate Mass in our school hall on Tuesday 26th September at 9.05am, all family members are welcome to join us. 

  Canon Tom will lead us in our celebration. On the morning of this day the children are invited to come into school wearing their First Holy Communion dresses/suits/special outfits and will need to change into their school uniform later in the morning. We look forward to gathering together on this joyous occasion as a school family.
